FLEX CLASSES
7 weeks from 5:30pm-8:30pm
Held one night during the week. Call the studio for which night during the session. All levels of expertise are welcome.
You pay as you come for the time spent in the studio. If you miss a class you don't lose it since you haven't prepaid your session. The minimum price is $11 for up to 2 hours (5:30 - 7:30). If you'd like to stay the 3rd hour, the price will be $5. Time cutoffs are 5:30-7:30 and 7:30-8:30. This means that if you start late, at 6:00, you'll be charged $11 up to 7:30. Very flexible. Choose your own project. You can make a box, a lamp, a suncatcher, picture frame, etc. For all beginners, help will be given as you make your selections. Extra time will be spent to you as you learn how to successfully cut glass, learn how to grind your pieces and wrap each piece with foil.
OPEN STUDIO*
Walk-ins are welcome during our Open Studio hours on Friday and Saturday mornings. Do you have a project you'd like to start but don't have the space at home? Do you need some help with a project? Do you want to just get away from the house and have a little "you" time? Then try our morning Open Studio on Friday and/or Saturday mornings from 9:00am - 1:00pm. Come play all 4 hours or as little as 2 hours. Minimum charge for Open Studio is $11 for up to 2 hours of studio time. After that, pay only $5 per hour up to the 4th hour ending at 1:00pm. As always, all tool usage is included in class charges.
*some upcoming workshops will be scheduled during Open Studio, so please call ahead to be sure of available times and space.
FUSING AND SLUMPING*
This class is designed for beginners but intermediate students are also welcome. Fusing is the process of layering and melting glass in a kiln. Slumping is the process of taking a fused piece and forming it into a mold using a high temp glass kiln. In this 2 week course, you will make at least 2 completed projects ranging from jewelry pieces, coasters, light switch covers, bowls or plates. Students will purchase their own glass and misc supplies to use for projects as well as pay a firing fee. All tool usage is included in the cost of this class. Minimum class is 3 and maximum is 8 students. Cost is only $25.
*For those of you who already have knowledge in fusing and slumping, you may opt to take this class in either the Open Studio or Stained Glass class time instead of the above class times and dates. All the same fees apply.
LAMPWORKING (aka Beadmaking)
The cost is $95 for 2 weeks and includes instruction, use of equipment and glass rods. In this class you'll learn the basics of winding glass onto a mandrel and forming a bead. You'll learn how to pull stringers and apply these to the bead as decorations. As time allows in this class, I'll be demonstrating different bead shapes and different ways of adorning the bead. Very fun and quick paced class.
MY SOLDERING "SUCKS" WORKSHOP!
Is soldering getting you hot under the collar? If so, come take this soldering workshop for cool tips and techniques to perfect your skills. You will learn how to diagnose and correct typical problems that arise while soldering. I will also touch on decorative soldering techniques. Bring a minimum of 8 pieces of glass (no larger than 1 1/2 x 8") foiled and ready to solder. Bring your soldering iron, rheostat, solder, flux, and flux brush that you usually use so that I can troubleshoot any equipment problems. Class will be held during any Open Studio on Friday and Saturday starting at 9:00am through 11:00am. Cost is $11.00. Please call ahead to be sure of available times and space.
LEAD CAME CLASS
The leaded glass class uses strips of h-lead instead of foil. It’s an ancient art form that dates back to the medieval times. It’s the process of cutting your glass to fit inside the channels. No foiling and only tack soldering so the process is much quicker than tiffany style (using foil with the process of soldering all of your lines). The lead technique gives your art panel strong lines and an antique look. Cost is $85 plus materials for 3 weeks which includes tool usage. You will need a special leading board to work on. Your 18” square board will be made out of plywood with 2 pieces of trim or wood pieces nailed at right angles on the edge of the board. If you’re not able to supply this, let us know and we can make you a board at a cost of $15.
**New** SOLDER SCULPTURING
This class is taking decorative soldering to new heights. This class teaches you soldering techniques that allow you to control and manipulate the solder . The techniques are simple and easy to learn and by using step-by-step instructions for building, anyone can become a sculptor. In this class we will be building a 3 dimensional life-like turtle. Although we probably will not finish our project, we will come close enough that taking it home and finishing there will be possible without further instruction. Solder sculpturing is relaxing, fun and taps each individual’s creativity. It will be necessary for students to already know how to solder in order for you to attend this class. You don't have to be a great solderer but basic knowledge is very important, otherwise you'll have a hard time to complete this project. This 2 week class will cost $60. Supplies are an extra cost. If you have one, please bring your soldering iron and iron control. The soldering iron MUST heat up to at least 1000 degrees in order for the sculpting to work.
