Hot Glass
Hot Glass
in the form of glass fusing is also called kiln firing because the layers of glass are melted in a high temperature kiln. Sheets of special fusing glass are cut, layered and designed to create glass jewelry, tiles/coasters, picture frames – just to name a few of the many different ideas that can be created. Slump or drape a fused piece over or into a mold
and a beautiful plate, bowl, soap dish or candle holder
has just been born.
The other Hot Glass technique is lampworking or torchwork (aka beadmaking). Torchwork requires a special beadmaking torch in which to melt the glass rods and then wind the molten glass onto a stainless steel mandrel to form a bead.
